Employee assistance programs refer to mental health counseling services offered by several insurance companies and employers. Services provided through employee assistance program do not require direct payments from employees. These plans cover certain expenses of nervous and mental disorder treatment. It is offered by employers along with health insurance plans.
These plans help to deal with personal problems of employees that will have adverse effect in their work and personal lives. EAPs also include counseling services for employees and their family members. They are offered for free of cost for employees and their family members. It is a pre-paid plan where the employer pays off for mental health expenses of his employees and their family members.
The employer may also outsource the services of a third company for managing this program. Sometimes employers may refer this program for some employees for their job performance or behavioral problems. However both employees and employers can benefit from this plan.
