Group Health Insurance is coverage on a group basis. It is cheaper to pay for a group policy then it is for each person to have an individual policy. A group health insurance policy can apply to a family or a business. The self-employed can even join up as an organisation to gain access to a group insurance policy. There is a wide range of policies available for groups at present. Group health insurance for a family would consist of the head of the family applying for insurance and then adding the rest of their family onto the policy at a reduced rate. A company's group health insurance works differently. They can have a tailor made policy and let any of their eligible employees join and pay into it on a regular basis. The company also has the option of paying into the fund itself in addition or instead of the employee.
The type of plan depends on the people involved. A company's group health insurance scheme can be more of a general policy and eligibility may depend on the length of service to a company and the age of the employee. The coverage can include dental care, sudden illness and accidental injury. A family's group policy can be more detailed as it is based on the entire family's needs.
