Short-term health insurance is generally a policy that lasts between six and twelve months. It is usually needed while a person is waiting for a long-term insurance policy to begin. It is also useful for people who are on-strike, in between jobs or who's work involves seasonal employment. It can also be necessary for someone who has just reached the age where they are now ineligible for their family's group health insurance policy. This type of insurance generally does not provide comprehensive cover and does not cover long-term illness or pre-existing medical conditions. It can be mainly constricted to sudden illness and accidental injury within the time span.
This type of policy is usually simpler and quicker to apply for. The policy can be paid for on a monthly basis or by a lump sum upfront. The exact length of term must be specified. When the policy has run out, it can be applied for again. However, short-term health insurance policies can generally only be re-applied for once. The insurance policy coverage can begin from 24 hours after submitting an application. If not, then it is possible to specify an exact date no more than 30 days after the application submission.
