Preferred Provider Organization

A Preferred Provider Organization, or PPO, is a group of doctors' offices and hospitals that have agreed with the insurance company to provide medical care to those insured under the plan. While similar to an HMO, the PPO does not have a certain number of services they must provide each month.
Instead, the insurance company negotiates for lower cost services for their customers. PPO participants can use doctors out of their network if they need to. PPOs tend to be more expensive than HMOs, because they provide a wider range of services.

How To Choose A Small Business Provider

If you are ready to start shopping for health insurance for small businesses, there are a few things you should keep in mind to ensure that you get the best possible insurance for your company. First, check out the financial history of the small business health insurance company you are looking into. Remember, you need to have an insurance company that can pay your claim when you have one. If the company is new and not stable financially, do not subject your employees to the possibility of not having their claims paid.

Second, consider offering your employees a choice between different services, such as an HMO and PPO. Decide on the portion of the insurance premium you will pay, and then have the employees take care of the rest. This way your employees can have the higher cost insurance if they want, and you will not be stuck paying for it!

Use an insurance broker to help you find the best possible insurance for your small business. The insurance broker, rather than an agent, is going to have your best interests in mind, instead of working to sell a particular company's insurance.

Pros and Cons of Small Business Health Insurance

Small business health insurance plans have far more pros than cons. Of course, buying insurance for your small business and its employees will cost you money, but, in the long run, it protects your business. Your employees will be happier, healthier, and more productive, making your business more successful. So stop dragging your feet and start shopping for small business health insurance! Your employees deserve it!
